Nadia Reisenberg: A Chopin Treasury
BRIDGE 9276A/D

$ 59.99

Nadia Reisenberg (1904-1983) is heard in her acclaimed Chopin recordings, originally issued on Westminster LPs recorded in the late 1950s and now released on CD for the first time. Reisenberg studied with Leonid Nikolayev (St. Petersburg Conservatory), with Alexander Lambert (a Liszt pupil) and with Josef Hofmann and appeared with Barbirolli, Rodzinski, Bodanzky, Koussevitsky, and others. Her performances of all twenty-seven of the Mozart concertos, played in consecutive weekly broadcasts with Alfred Wallenstein and the WOR Mutual Radio Symphony Orchestra in the 1939-40 season, are now legendary. This four disc set includes Chopin's complete Nocturnes, 56 Mazurkas, Barcarolle, Op. 60, Berceuse, Op. 57, Allegro de Concert, Op. 46, and the Sonata No. 3, Op. 58, taken from a 1947 Carnegie Hall concert. More than 5 hours of Chopin were remastered for this release by Seth Winner.

Reviews:

"In all these Chopin works, Reisenberg's playing is exceptionally beautiful, distinguished by warm tone, impressive clarity, unostentatious virtuosity and unerring musical insight. Perhaps this 'Chopin Treasury,' which truly is a treasure, will build demand for Reisenberg's self-effacing and distinguished artistry." - New York Times

“I rarely get to review an album as fulfilling as Reisenberg’s Chopin. This is a pianist to treasure. Nothing passes her hands that isn’t full of life and deep understanding.” - Fanfare

“These records are a treasure indeed, an Aladdin’s cave of performances of such breathtaking pianistic finesse that they are able to achieve an expressive and imaginative freedom known to very few pianists. This invaluable, finely remastered album is accompanied by splendid photographs of the pianist with her family and with such colleagues as Benny Goodman, Piatigorsky, Heifetz, Enescu and Richard Tucker.” - Gramophone
