Hindemith: Music for Cello and Piano
Wendy Warner, cello
BRIDGE 9088

$ 14.99

 Wendy Warner is one of the most exciting players of the new generation of cello virtuosi. She performs regularly throughout the United States both with orchestras and in recital. This recording demonstrates her impeccable musicianship and skill, performing Hindemith's complete chamber works for cello. The Sonata for Solo Cello, Op. 25 No. 3 is a fascinating work, with the composer's unique brand of harmony, and Warner makes the most of the eerily calm slow movement. Both works for cello and piano are here as well- the Sonata, Op. 11 No. 3 and the Sonata of 1948, showing the composer as a developing master, and at his most mature. Also included are the fun Variations on "A Frog He Went A-Courtin" and the early Capriccio, the closest thing to a pop tune that Hindemith ever wrote.

Reviews:

“Hindemith was both talented and prolific and, like Martinu, he wrote a lot of music in a lot of different genres. This disc is a particularly lively program played with sentiment, bravura, and humor...Warner and Buck make an excellent case for Hindemith of all periods. If you’re just discovering him, this is a good place to start.” - American Record Guide

“An excellent disc in every respect.” - ClassicsToday.com (Highest Rating 10/10)
