Chamber Music of Antonín Dvořák
BRIDGE 9242

$ 14.99

Two of Dvorak's most popular pieces of chamber music-- both in ebullient performances anchored by Glenn Dicterow (New York Philharmonic concertmaster) and cellist James Kreger, recorded with pianist David Golub in concert at the Marlboro Music Festival (Op. 65), and in a studio recording with violist Karen Dreyfus and pianist Gerald Robbins. (Op. 8). The intimate and passionate 1970 reading of the F minor trio captures these artists as young virtuosi, and is a fine example of the elevated level of performance of Dvorak and Brahms, a hallmark of the Marlboro Music Festival during the Serkin/Casals era. This performance documents lifelong chamber partnerships which developed into the ensemble that performs Dvorak's wonderful E-flat quartet here. Liner notes are by Dvorak scholar, Michael Beckerman, author of New Worlds of Dvorak (Norton, 2003).

Reviews:

This release is a fitting testament to an artist whose contributions to music were sadly silenced mid-career.” - International Record Review
