Victor Rosenbaum gives shatteringly intense performances of two late Schubert masterpieces- the Sonata in A Minor, D. 959, and Moments Musicaux, Op. 94. This recording is from a concert given in Jerusalem, and documents, for the first time on disc, the art of Victor Rosenbaum, a Schubertian of unusual temperament and depth.
The transcendently beautiful A major Sonata was written in September of 1828, a year in which Schubert, knowing he was fatally ill, wrote with an almost unimaginable furiosity in an apparent race against time. Moments Musicaux was published that same year, and shows Schubert's mastery in the shorter forms.
