Stuyvesant Quartet and Al Gallodoro
BRIDGE 9397

$ 14.99

The Stuyvesant Quartet, founded in 1938 by the brothers Sylvan and Alan Shulman (first violinist and cellist), is heard in a superb reading of one of Johannes Brahms's greatest chamber creations, the Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115. On this 1947 recording, made at the Majestic Theater in New York, the Stuyvesants are joined by clarinet virtuoso, Al Gallodoro. Gallodoro, had played with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, and met the Shulman brothers while the three were members of Toscanini's NBC Symphony Orchestra. Also on this nearly 80 minute-long CD are two Mozart quartets: K. 499 and 575, recorded in Bronxville, New York, in 1951. BRIDGE has previously released: The Stuyvesant Quartet with Benny Goodman, clarinet; Goodman plays Alan Shulman's Rendezvous with Benny, and the quartet plays Debussy, Ravel and Malipiero. Reviews:

There is no doubting that these recordings were a labour of love. At 80 minutes this is a generously well-filled disc. The notes by Jay Shulman are excellent, informative and very well written.” - MusicWeb International
