SOLO TUBA
Aaron Tindall - Transformations
Global Music Awards: Silver Medal Winners – Outstanding Achievement
This new recording features two tuba concertos (by Gunther Schuller and Dana Wilson), David Lang's Jimi Hendrix homage, for electric tuba, narrator and chamber orchestra, and a tuba solo by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Tuba virtuoso Aaron Tindall has been a leader in the performance of new music for tuba, and is currently a professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.
Reviews:
“The convergence on this disc of horn-playing composer Gunther Schuller and tuba virtuoso Aaron Tindall is highly successful. Schuller’s orchestration skills and affinity for low-registered instruments are evident...Tindall’s evocation of Jimmy Hendrix’s fuzz-tone guitar on the electric tuba is truly amazing!” - theWholeNote
“This is a fascinating and highly enjoyable album, one in which the whole is even more enjoyable than the individual parts all by themselves. ‘Transformations,’ indeed!” - The Art Music Lounge
“There’s something jaw-dropping when a tuba player plays a clarinet part with all the clarinet’s big jumps and virtuosic lines.” - New Music Connoisseur
“If you want to know what the tuba is truly capable of, this should be your reference recording.” - Finding Beauty in Ephemera
