The Music of Peter Lieberson, Vol. 2
BRIDGE 9317
Peter Lieberson's music has attracted many of today's finest performers, including the pianist Peter Serkin, who is featured on all four works on this disc. The disc opens with Lieberson's dazzling second piano concerto with Serkin accompanied by the New York Philharmonic under James Conlon. The composer's late wife, mezzo-soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, is heard in Rilke Songs for mezzo and piano; A live performance of Rilke Songs with the same performers was the winner of a 2008 Grammy for "Best Vocal Recording" (BRIDGE 9178). The present never-before issued studio version of the songs, was recorded in 2005. Also on this disc is the premiere recording of Lieberson's Piano Quintet, played by Serkin and the Orion String Quartet, the dedicatees of this work.
Reviews:
“In the continued absence of his music from UK concerts, such discs are crucial in allowing us access to one of the leading American composers. The sound is up to Bridge’s best standards.” - International Record Review
