This two-disc set includes many of the solo works in their first recordings, as well as duo works from throughout the great American composer's career. Noted soloists on this two-disc set are pianists Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, and Horacio Gutierrez, clarinetist Charles Neidich, and cellist Jay Campbell.
Reviews:
"...the star among stars on this twin pack, apart from Perle himself, is cellist Jay Campbell. What a glorious rich cello voice, and what terrific agility from the bass string right up into thumb position! Perle clearly loved the instrument and Campbell seems to enjoy playing his work." — the WholeNote
"The seriousness of intent and the comprehensive instrumental possibilities make this a welcome addition for all those who appreciate George Perle or would like to explore his works and do not know a great deal of his music as yet. I recommend it strongly." — Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music
"This set of his solos and duos for violin, clarinet, cello, double bass, bassoon, and piano is a rich and various trip through the aesthetic that many of us have come to feel especially at home in." — Positive feedback
