The Music Teacher is a story told by two narrators twenty years or so after the events described. The plot focuses around a music professor and his student who collaborate on the composition of an opera. This 'opera within the opera' runs for more than half of the length of The Music Teacher. The Music Teacher was a collaboration between two brothers- Allen and Wallace Shawn, and features a cast made up of singers and actors, including Wallace Shawn and Parker Posey of Hollywood fame.
