Parisian Inspirations
Dionne Jackson, Marija Stroke
BRIDGE 9482
For more than a century, French composers have created special ways of approaching the flute for evocative musical effects, offering wild celebratory dances or cool evocations of moonlight. Dionne Jackson's brilliantly performed program represents a wide range of French composers of the last century and their imaginative reactions to the possibilities of the flute—flexible, tender, mysterious, joyous, melancholy, dark, or bright. Dionne Jackson was the first American in more than a decade to receive First Prize in Flute from the Paris Conservatory while on a Fulbright grant. In her native Chicago, Jackson has held the position of assistant principal flute with Lyric Opera of Chicago since 2001. She is partnered by the excellent Marija Stroke.
Reviews:
“The truth is, even at home, the spirit of Paris is clearly fundamental to these outstanding American artists, and these Parisian Impressions should serve as an example and inspiration to flutists who aim to play these works in a French manner. This is an obvious acquisition for any such student of the art and for all lovers of superlative flute playing.” - Fanfare
“Some recital discs are ideal for aspiring artists to study and learn from. Dionne Jackson's "Parisian Inspirations" is beyond that -- this is inspired music-making everyone can appreciate and enjoy.” - Finding Beauty in Ephemera
