PASSAGES: FRENCH CELLO WORKS
BRIDGE 9597
PASSAGES features French cello compositions spanning two centuries and includes three premiere recordings. Louise Dubin plays cello duos by Franchomme, Fauré and contemporary composer Philippe Hersant, with Julia Bruskin (cellist of the Claremont Trio and the Metropolitan Opera). Ms. Dubin also presents Charles Koechlin's superb and rarely played sonata, the beloved Debussy sonata, and shorter pieces by Chopin, Franchomme and Poulenc, performed with pianist Spencer Myer.
Reviews:
“Dubin and Myer’s depiction of [the Koechlin sonata’s] impressionistic lights and shades
made me pause the recording so I could order the score…an intriguing collection of
hidden gems…accomplished performances.” — January 2026 issue of Strings
Magazine
“Exceptional. Her intonation, tone and adaptation to the differing styles of music was so
impressive...Her partners were equally impressive, but this is Dubin’s show.” — David
Barker at Music Web International (UK)
“…warmly expressive, with just the right measure of dramatic weight when called
for…stylistic versatility and vibrant coloration….From the gravity of the Chopin, to the
grace of the Franchomme, to the aggressive nature of the final Caprice by Philippe
Hersant, her expressive details do the music full justice” in this “finely curated
collection" — Jean-Yves Duperron, Classical Music Sentinel
“No matter the musician she partners with, however, the cellist never fails to impress on
this collection for both her musicological acumen and sterling technical command.” —
